As one of our premier Underwriters, you’ll be part of a team that stimulates production through independent agencies and then reviews insurance applications and evaluates their potential risk to Sentry.

This hybrid position offers the opportunity to work from home on Mondays and Fridays. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are in-office days at our Windsor, CT Regional office.

This position can be filled at the Senior, Specialist or Specialist Sr level, depending on experience and qualifications. Candidates must possess a minimum of two years of multi-line commercial underwriter experience for consideration.

What You’ll Do

Our Underwriters within Sentry’s Regional unit work closely with independent agents to underwrite, price and program individual policies/accounts. You will:

• Underwrite multi-line middle market accounts
• Provide feedback to sales teams and underwriting management regarding trends and issues within their assigned territory, and provide solutions
• Work with other business functions to ensure service and quality objectives are met
• Demonstrate an understanding of the insurance marketplace and emerging industry issues
• Complete assigned project work requiring a high level of technical knowledge
• Perform other job-related duties including training, presenting, attending sales meetings, traveling to agents, participating in audits, and covering desks for other Underwriters
• Work closely with sales personnel to obtain information needed to properly underwrite, price, and program individual policies/accounts
• Work on the more complex underwriting assignments.through the use of manuals, established procedures, and information collected. Refer business outside of authority limit
• Be responsible for underwriting of the more complex, larger accounts and reinsurance placements.
• Evaluate established procedures for effectiveness and recommend change
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

What it Takes

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
• Previous Commercial Property Casualty insurance underwriting experience
• Completed insurance courses such as IIA and/or CPCU preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of commercial multi-line product line insurance concepts and terminology
• Comprehensive knowledge of reinsurance procedures
• Excellent analytical, human relations and communication skills
• Ability to meet limited travel requirements

Position level and salary is dependent upon background and experience:

• Underwriter Senior: 2+ years commercial lines underwriting experience $74,980-$102,925
• Underwriter Specialist: 5+ years CL underwriting $90,620-$124,660
• Underwriter Specialist Senior: 8+ years CL underwriting experience $109,710-$150,880
