Program Manager with Mission Collaborative

Part-time remote role, flexible start

APPLICATION CURRENTLY OPEN FOR SEPTEMBER START DATES

About Mission Collaborative

Over two-thirds of Americans report feeling disengaged at work. Since 2017, we’ve been on a mission to change that by helping people design careers they love! We serve thousands of working professionals of all ages (20s to 60s) and backgrounds who want to find more fulfillment in their careers. Our primary offering is the 30-day online Career Design Fellowship based on Design Thinking principles. The program guides participants through our proven Career Design process to figure out what they want next from their career and how to make it happen. Learn more about us and our program at

Role overview:

Mission Collaborative is looking for a Program Manager who is talented in online community management, coaching/facilitation, and customer support. This role is perfect for you if you’re excited to support the career development of a diverse group of people in a part-time, online capacity.

If selected for this role, you’ll be added to our team of Program Managers, allowing you to manage our Career Design Fellowship programs for as long as you remain in good standing.

This role will be a great fit for you if you have experience with (and enjoy):
  • Coaching/facilitation - You’re great at working with individuals to help them overcome stumbling blocks and get excited about their possibilities.
  • Career development - You know what it takes to build a fulfilling career, and you can guide others through their own career design journeys.
  • Customer success - You are good at anticipating needs, making people feel heard, and ensuring that everyone gets as much value as possible from their experience.
  • Virtual community-building - You have experience bringing people together online, igniting conversations, and providing helpful resources.
  • Operations and Administration - You’re comfortable using spreadsheets to manage customer data, you’re detail oriented, and you love a good checklist.
  • Working remotely - You have experience working remotely and part-time. You’re excellent at managing your time and keeping on top of your to-do list.
Skills/strengths you have:
  • Empathy - You can quickly connect with people of different ages and backgrounds, and you can get to the root of their needs efficiently.
  • Career counseling - You help people overcome their stumbling blocks, identify their strengths, and make real progress on their career journey.
  • Excellent communication - You are an excellent written and verbal communicator, able to make others feel heard and understood while also providing solutions and motivation.
  • Detail-oriented - You’re good at keeping track of people and to-do items, and you don’t let things fall through the cracks.
  • Brainstorming / Resourcefulness - You love to help others come up with ideas and resources. You can help people identify career options based on their interests and skills, and you see possibilities where others run out of ideas.
  • Fluent in common software tools - You’re savvy with basic tech products including Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc) and Slack

As a Program Manager, you’ll be able to choose which of our scheduled Fellowship programs you’d like to oversee. Each program lasts for 5 weeks and requires 5-15 hours of work per week, depending on the number of program participants (you can choose what size program you want to manage). The role is highly flexible and fully remote. While the vast majority of your tasks can be done whenever is convenient for you, we expect you to provide timely and thoughtful support via email or Slack within 24 hours of receiving participant outreach.

Tasks you’ll be responsible for:
  • Complete Mission Collaborative-provided training on Career Design and online community management best practices prior to the program beginning.
  • Before the program starts, review participant bios and create partners and teams (we’ll show you how to do this)
  • Provide as-needed support to participants via Slack, email, and (occasionally) phone.
  • Provide feedback and support to participants: encouragement/reassurance, career ideas, relevant career resources, and career development insights
  • Provide logistic and technical troubleshooting support to participants when needed
  • Analyze weekly participant feedback to ensure satisfaction and progress. Reach out to participants who need additional support.
Support you can expect from us:
  • Training on best practices for online community management, coaching/facilitation, and career development.
  • Weekly support and training meetings with your fellow Program Managers, led by the Mission Collaborative leadership team
  • On demand support from Mission Collaborative leadership and fellow Program Managers via a team Slack workspace, email, and 1:1 meetings (when requested).
Compensation:
  • $39/hour
  • Programs run for 5 weeks (many start dates available from late January through May) and require 5-15 hours of work per week (depending on the size of the cohort). You’ll be working as a 1099 contractor.
  • If we bring you on to our team, you can manage multiple programs in series (e.g. manage a program in February then come back in April), or you can manage multiple simultaneous programs (effectively upping your weekly hours to 10-25hrs/wk).
  • You will be compensated for all training, team meetings, and most optional team events.
  • Compensation rate will be updated here when applications open.
Application Process:

We are committed to equal opportunity hiring, so we’ve built an application process that gives candidates the opportunity to make a case for themselves, regardless of their background.

To apply for this position, we require you to complete a Case Study Assignment that gives you a chance to show us how you think while also giving you a taste of the role. In addition to this assignment, we’ll also ask you to answer a few questions about your candidacy and submit your resume. You will need a Google account to complete this assignment and submit your application.

Applying for this position should take 40 to 50 minutes. We’ll review your submission within seven days. If we want to move forward with your candidacy, we’ll invite you to a video interview as the next step!
